We offer oral surgery to help members of our community of all ages, whether they need a general tooth extraction or even a tooth replacement with dental implants. But how does a person prepare for the upcoming procedure? In today’s blog, your Santa Rosa , CA, oral surgeons talk about preparing for oral surgery.
Preparing for Your Visit
We will conduct the surgery in our office, so no need to go to another location. We urge you to arrive on time and wear clothing that is loose and comfortable. We will provide presurgical instructions, and you should follow them to the letter. This could include avoiding food and drink for the eight hours before the procedure. You may need to take medication beforehand as well.
Arranging for a Friend
You should arrange for a friend or family member to be there to bring you home afterward. For many procedures, the sedation will leave people a bit groggy, so they cannot drive themselves home or return to work or school. Have someone there to take you home, and also to pick up any prescribed medications too. We will send detailed aftercare instructions home with you, so you know how to facilitate a complication-free healing period for the next day or two. Often, people return to normal activities after a couple days of rest.
What Happens Next?
We will let you know how long your procedure will be. The time will depend on the complexity of the procedure, as some could be as little as 30 minutes while others could be more involved, such as jawbone grafting or treatment for facial trauma. During your surgery, you may hear sounds and feel vibrations, but you won’t feel any discomfort. While waiting, your friend or family member will have access to free Wi-Fi, coffee, and water. If you have any questions about preparing for your oral surgery, or if you would like to schedule a visit now to undergo treatment before the year ends, let us know. There is still time to use your 2022 dental insurance benefits before they expire at the end of December. Let’s work together to great 2023 with your best smile!
